Icicle Pickles Recipe

  1. Quarter medium sized cucumbers, lengthwise.
  2. Add 1 pint salt to 1 gallon boiling water.
  3. Pour over pickles and let stand 7 days, stirring each day.
  4. Drain and cover with boiling water in which a chunk of alum (size of a walnut) is dissolved.
  5. Let stand 1 day.
  6. Drain
      Syrup:
    • 4 1/2 pt. sugar
    • 2 qt. vinegar
    • Pickling spices
  7. Boil and put on cucumbers for 4 days, pouring off and reheating the syrup each day.
  8. The fourth day, put in jars and cover with boiling syrup and seal.
