Green Bean Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbls. butter
  • 3 tbls. flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk or light cream
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tbls. margarine
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic;minced
  • 1 1/2 cups diced mushrooms
  • 4 cups cooked green beans
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 cup french fried onions
  • Opt. Additions to cream sauce: pinch nutmeg; or 3 tsp. dry ranch dressing mix

Directions:

  • In medium skillet, saute onion, garlic in 1 tbls margarine
  • When tender, add mushrooms, blend. Saute 5 minutes
  • In small sauce pan, melt butter; add flour, milk, pepper
  • Cook on low stirring constantly until smooth and creamy. Remove from heat
  • In 2 qt. casserole, combine cooked beans, sauce, onions, mushrooms
  • Blend well
  • Top with bread crumbs and fried onions
  • Additional treat-Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top before baking
  • Bake, uncovered for 30 minutes at 350 degrees
