Green Bean Casserole
Ingredients:
- 2 tbls. butter
- 3 tbls. flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk or light cream
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 tbls. margarine
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic;minced
- 1 1/2 cups diced mushrooms
- 4 cups cooked green beans
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 cup french fried onions
- Opt. Additions to cream sauce: pinch nutmeg; or 3 tsp. dry ranch dressing mix
Directions:
- In medium skillet, saute onion, garlic in 1 tbls margarine
- When tender, add mushrooms, blend. Saute 5 minutes
- In small sauce pan, melt butter; add flour, milk, pepper
- Cook on low stirring constantly until smooth and creamy. Remove from heat
- In 2 qt. casserole, combine cooked beans, sauce, onions, mushrooms
- Blend well
- Top with bread crumbs and fried onions
- Additional treat-Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top before baking
- Bake, uncovered for 30 minutes at 350 degrees
