Raisin Bread

Ingredients:

  • 6 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar plus 1 tbls.
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkgs. dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbls. margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  • In large bowl, thoroughly mix 2 1/2 cups flour, sugar, salt, yeast
  • Combine water and margarine in a saucepan and heat on low until warm
  • Gradually add dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes on medium speed
  • Add remaining flour to make stiff batter(best to blend with hands)
  • Cover; let rise in warm place for 1 hour
  • Work dough, fold in raisins, work again
  • Shape into 2 loaves; cover; let rise another hour
  • Bake on cookie sheet for 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees
